Words to Live By: New Eyes

“The only real voyage of discovery consists not in seeing new landscapes, but in having new eyes, in seeing the universe with the eyes of another, in seeing the hundreds of universes that each of them sees.” – Proust

Happy Holidays!

27 Dec

I know. I’ve been lost, really lost. And I am sorry. Between the job, the wedding planning, life and trying to eat less and exerise more I have neglected my blog.

I promise I am always thinking of you my dear readers.

Happy Holidays to all!

Salt is bad for you.

3 Aug

Apparently, Angelina Jolie’s new flick, SALT is not the only concealed health threat out there these days…

We all know a bit too much sodium can lead to serious health issues such as high blood pressure. However, according to an article on today’s Wall Street Journal titled “The Salt Hiding in Your Diet”, the problem to cutting back on sodium lies in that most of the sodium we ingest is in processed foods, restaurant meals and not-so-obvious foods. Cereal and sliced bread are among those foods that conceal dangerous amounts of sodium. Who knew, right?

The following graph shows you how much sodium there actually is in meals that you wouldn’t consider to be necessarily salty and thus high in sodium– except for the popcorn and soda snack. Click here to find out how much sodium each component of these meals has.

Good thing chocolate has no sodium.

According to the WSJ article, “[n]early 90% of adults consume more salt than U.S. dietary guidelines recommend. Now, federal officials are considering making those guidelines even tougher to follow.”

Right, I’m sure they will. I think I’d rather start baking my own bread, eliminating all processed foods from my diet (including that organic mac and cheese I had for lunch with 660 mg sodium) and not eating out at all. Thus, surviving on a bland diet of mostly air and sweet chocolate.

We all know someone who needs a makeover. The sales lady at Walgreens who has yet to discover the very inexpensive yet very efficient Sally Hansen Facial Hair Remover Wax Strip Kit ($3.99) in the cosmetics aisle, that anxious classmate who chews on her fingernails during class rather than on a piece of sugar-free gum, the guy you went out with last Friday who wears Spider Man briefs in his mid-20’s, or your overly self-confident and overweight neighbor who swears by spandex and insists in wearing skin-tight attire without the aid of Spanx or a personal trainer. And the list goes on…

But acknowledging when you need a makeover yourself is far more important than pointing out everyone else who needs one.

And that is why I have decided to give my blog, FashionGypsy, a makeover. The reason: I’d like to share with you an array of interests of mine other than fashion.

Besides my interest in practical, budget-friendly fashion, I love to cook, travel, write and photograph anything that inspires me. Et voilà… Gypsy Rhapsody is born.

I am now expanding my (blog)horizons and granting you access to the world as I see it.
